I went back to using a car but it was damn near impossible to make more than what I was spending. I actually did deliveries on a ebike for a year and as soon as I was paying off my debts, Uber suddenly changed the algorithm and a found myself without an income overnight. Everytime you turn around the pay keeps getting lower while your expenses keep getting more expensive but if you don’t accept nearly every offer the apps stop sending you offers. And even if you do there’s little chance of you getting an offer because the apps just keep hiring people left and right. Also the whole “be your own boss” is a complete lie since we can’t set our own rates and you technically can work whenever but in reality you need to work during certain times when people are actually using the services in hopes of getting an offer. These companies have entered the territory of a multi-level marketing scheme where drivers can make more on referrals than actually driving so long as the apps don’t decide to arbitrarily to deactivate a driver for no reason Or simply refuse to pay them for the referrals.Īs a driver it can be really terrible and you end up lying to yourself saying it’s not that bad you just have to work harder. Honestly hopefully drivers and customers can find a way to cut out Uber and Lyft in the future. I stuck with food delivery for a bit but now back at a W2. I tried to do rideshare for a bit and it was ridiculous what they tried to pay me.

Because some drivers are still holding out for better days🥲 but, most of the gig workers are leaving in droves.
